Quality Engineer
Renold Gears is a subsidiary of Renold plc. The site at Milnrow, Rochdale UK, manufactures gears and drive systems for use in a variety of applications. It employs around 200 staff, with a QA team of 7. The site has ISO9001:2008 accreditation.
Job Description
Reporting to the Quality Director, the primary role is to support existing product ranges, supplier systems development and new project support. Travel will be required to meet these requirements
Key functions:
- Review and implementation of customer QA requirements.
- Project Management
- Component and materials supplier assessments, international travel where required.
- Quality assurance of purchased components and materials including product from offshore suppliers.
- Establishing quality control standards and procedures.
- Liaison with manufacturing to ensure suitability of processes.
- First article inspection and documentation.
- Documentation for ongoing production
- Liaison and query resolution with both suppliers and customers.
- Flexibility to meet Company requirements
Person Specification
- Mechanical Engineering background
- Degree or HND, ideally in Mechanical Engineering
- Ability to work with and develop ISO 9001 and TS 16949 systems (auditor trained would be useful)
- Experience of new product introduction
- Experience of supplier QA assessments and supplier quality control
- Skilled at procedure writing and control of internal audits
- PPAP and/or First Article Experience
- Process knowledge of manufacturing processes
- 6 Sigma/Lean Knowledge/ Minitab analysis skills
- Availability to travel worldwide
- Experience of customer liaison
- Ability to communicate at all levels
- Materials knowledge of Ductile Irons and steels, with casting knowledge is preferable but not essential
- Gearing knowledge / measurement of, is also preferable but not essential as training will be given as required
Training will be given as required, but the expectation is for an experienced engineer who can pick up a new project from start to finish.
