In keeping with its reputation as a world-class manufacturer of precision
gears, Renold Gears, a division of Renold Power Transmission, has developed a
comprehensive Service & Repair Department to meet the requirements of
industry worldwide.
Based at the Renold Gear Works at Milnrow, Lancashire, England, the
department operates a round-the-clock call out to provide a rapid response to
customer requirements.
All types of worm, helical and bevel gear units
are accepted for service and repair, irrespective of age or original
manufacturer. Naturally, the facility provides a full rebuild service on Renold,
Holroyd, Croft and Carter gear units using genuine manufacturer's
components.
A specialist OEM of fixed speed reducers, motorised units and variable speed
drives, Renold's expertise is reflected in the quality and in-depth repair
facilities available to customers.

Service/repair gearboxes undergo exactly the same engineering
processes as new units and a comprehensive running test and leak check is
carried out before pass-off. All service/repair units carry a 12-month warranty
as standard.
The service can include electron beam welding of the wormwheel rim and centre
to give added security. The high security fit of electron beam welding allows
transmission of power under extreme shock load conditions.
Complementing its factory-based repairs, Renold can provide a range of
on-site and support services, which can include: on-site maintenance and in-situ
repairs; plant surveys for planned maintenance; and technical design expertise
for all application and design requirements.
Renold's expertise was recently called upon when a major automotive
manufacturer experienced persistent stoppages to one of its main conveyor lines,
due to a repeated failure of a non-Renold gearbox drive and layout shaft
assembly.
Renold engineers using laser alignment equipment found that two pairs of
opposing, rigidly mounted gear couplings, connected by common layshafts were
permanently under stress. A complication was that the conveyor fixtures that
located the gear couplings were an integral part of the building structure and
could not be re-sited.
The solution was to install two Renold GF1-SA internal gear couplings (which
incorporate a misalignment capability) per side to replace the rigidly mounted
couplings, and new layshafts manufactured from a more resilient EN 24B material.
Conveyor stoppages due to drive coupling failure have not occurred since the
modification.
Renold Gears Sales Director, Roger Godson, comments: 'Renold Gears has over
100 years' accumulative experience in the manufacture of precision gears and is
one of the very few British-based gear manufacturing companies still in
existence. Using reverse engineering techniques we have the capability to repair
any gear assembly - irrespective of size, configuration or origin, and we have a
comprehensive OEM service and repair programme for Renold, Holroyd, Croft and
Carter products. Our experience and unrivalled expertise mean that we can
provide a level of service, either in-house or on-site, second to none.'
