Renold Achieve BS OHSAS
Renold Hi-Tec Couplings, of Halifax, England, have been awarded the BS OHSAS 18001:2007 - International Occupational Health and Safety Management - standard.
Recognition of the need to adopt a formal procedure to reduce health and safety risks for employees and stakeholders prompted Renold Hi-Tec to work towards the internationally recognised accreditation.
OHSAS 18001, designed to be compatible with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, aims to help organisations meet their health and safety obligations in an efficient manner by providing a framework to identify and control any health and safety risks and minimise the potential for accidents in the working environment.
It took Renold Hi-Tec Couplings 12 months of concerted effort to achieve the accreditation, with one person assigned to ensuring the standard was achieved. The process started with a review of all business activities and all relevant legislation and culminated in the development of written procedures and objectives for continual improvement.
Alan Dean, Renold Hi-Tec's Business Development Director, commented:
"A great deal of hard work and commitment across the whole business was required whilst working towards OHSAS 18001. However it was very important to us to ensure we have a formal Health and Safety procedure in place as part of out ongoing commitment to our employees and stakeholders."
